SOME QUIRKY AND INTERESTING
RENDERINGS OF SOME TRANSLATIONS
1.The KJV:
a.In
the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke), when the Greek in these
Gospels is exactly the same, the KJV does not translate them into English
in the same English worlds or terms.
b.Matt
14:8 John the Baptists head was brought in on a charger!
c.Acts 21:15 speaks of
carriages which Paul took, rather than baggage.
d.Mark 6:8 Jesus told his
disciples not to take a scrip with them, meaning a wallet of bag.
e.Acts 28:13 records we fetched
a compass meaning we made a circuit.

Thess 4:15 reads prevent them that are asleep rather than precede
them.
g.Mark 6:20 speaks of Herod
observing John the Baptist rather than keeping him safe.
h.Acts 12:4 speaks of Easter
rather than the Passover.
i.Matt 11:19 speaks of children
rather than works or deeds.
j.1 Cor 15:1-3 reads first of
all rather than of first importance.
k.1 John 2:20 speaks of unction
rather than anointed.
l.Matt 28:21 reads in the end
of the Sabbath rather than after the Sabbath.
m.John 20:17 reads touch me not
rather than do not hold me.

John 5:7,8 includes a trinitarian reference which is not in the better
texts.

Tim 3:1 perpetuates the term office of a bishop where the Greek has
no term office.
2.The ASV:
a.Matt
28:1 Like the KJV the ASV reads late on the Sabbath rather than
after the Sabbath.
b.John
20:7 also reads touch me not rather than do not hold me.
c.1
Thess 5:14 reads disorderly rather than idle or idleness.
3.The RSV:
a.Rev
15:1 reads portent rather than sign when in John the same word is
translated sign.
b.Rev
13:8 has the names of the saints written in the book of life before the
foundation of the world rather than Jesus being crucified before the
foundation of the world as in the NIV.
c.Rev
21:6 reads It is done rather than translating the plural as all
things are done.
d.Rom
3:25 and 1 John 2:2 read expiation rather than atonement or
forgiveness.
e.Rom
8:15 has creative punctuation which although is difficult to determine
differs from the major Greek texts.

Tim 3:1 perpetuates KJV use of the term office of a bishop where
the Greek has no term office.
g.1
Thess 5:12, 1 Tim 5:17 and Rom 12:8 translates the term prohistemi
as over you (1 Thess 5:12), rule (1 Tim 5L:17), and
gives aid (Rom 12:8) rather than leading. A problem of inconsistent
translation and perpetuating a KJV view of ruling in favor of leading.
